General Terms and Conditions

Basel speaks inlingua

Effective 1st October 2020

1. General

The length of a lesson unit is generally 45 minutes. A break of 5 minutes is included therein. (With German Intensive, Semi-Intensive and Integration courses, however, the lessons last 45 minute without a break.) For pedagogical reasons, course appointments consist of a minimum of two lesson units. Training is conducted in the target language. Costs for learning materials are not included in the course fees and are listed separately on the invoice.

2. Enrolment and Payment Terms

After enrolling in one of our courses, participants receive an enrolment confirmation and an invoice with a payment slip. The due date indicated on the payment slip is binding. If the customer’s place of residence is in Switzerland, fees for courses can be paid in instalments within the duration of the course. An instalment fee of CHF 15.- per instalment is charged in such cases. inlingua Basel AG reserves the right to stop a participant’s course after it has begun for non-payment of fees by the due date on the invoice. Enrolment on the course obligates the participant to remit the due fees. Non-payment of fees does not entitle the participant to withdraw from the course. Payment can be made at inlingua Basel AG’s reception in cash, EC card, post card or credit card. Participants for group courses must be at least 16 years of age.

3. Cancellation or Postponement prior to Course Start

Language course enrolments can be cancelled or postponed free of charge up to 14 days before the start of the course. This must be done in writing to the school’s reception, either via letter or email. The date of receipt by inlingua Basel AG is the salient date. Cancellations received less than 14 days prior to the start of the course incur a service charge of CHF 300.-. German intensive course enrolments cancelled less than 14 days prior to the start of the course will be charged in full.

4. Cancellation of Group Courses after Course Start

Courses are planned for a fixed period and may not be cancelled. Partly or fully paid course fees will not be refunded. Upon written request to the school’s management, a customer account may be credited for a future course in exceptional cases. Such a credit is valid for a period of one year from the date of its issue and can be used for another language course at inlingua Basel AG if desired. Under no circumstances is reimbursement of course fees possible.

5. Vouchers

Relevant vouchers of any sort will not be paid out in cash or any other form. Regarding participants who possess a voucher financed by Canton Basel-Stadt: once the voucher has been stamped by inlingua Basel AG and a signed enrolment form has been received, course participation is considered to be confirmed. Participation in a course with the use of such a voucher is limited to a fixed period and may not be cancelled. Under no circumstances will the equivalent value of the voucher (or part thereof) be paid out, nor can it be transferred.

6. Interruption, Termination or Transfer of One-to-One Courses after Course Start

If a one-to-one course is interrupted, the credit balance will be valid and available for the duration of one year from the date of the last lesson completed. The termination of a one-to-one tuition course is possible and must be requested in writing. Within this one-year period, the credit balance may be used for another course, may be transferred to a third party or to another inlingua school in Switzerland. Reimbursement of course fees less a handling fee of CHF 300.- is also possible. If the course fees were paid by a company, the credit balance is exclusively the property of the company itself and may also be used by the respective company for another employee of the firm.

7. Organisation and Execution of Courses

Each course has a minimum and maximum number of participants, in order to maximise the learning benefit for every participant. Vacancies in any group are allocated according to the chronological order of enrolments of interested participants (subject to payment by the agreed due date). If the minimum number of participants is not met by the starting date, the course will be postponed or will not be executed at all. In the latter case, any fees collected by inlingua Basel AG will be refunded. The school reserves the right to temporarily run courses below the minimum number or with more than the maximum number of participants.

For organisational reasons inlingua Basel AG reserves the right to change the time or place of any planned or running courses or to merge two courses together into one. The school reserves the right to convert face-to-face courses into online courses, when required, without price reduction or compensation. inlingua Basel AG may also cease to execute any planned or running courses, in which case course fees for unused lesson units will be refunded.

Should a language teacher be impeded through illness or any other reason, inlingua Basel AG reserves the right to assign the course to a substitute language teacher. If there is no substitute teacher available, inlingua Basel AG may cancel a course appointment at short notice. In such cases the appointment will not be deducted off the sum total of paid/ booked appointments.

inlingua Basel AG reserves the right to exclude – for good reason – one or more participants from a course. If a participant is excluded from a running course, the course fees for unused lesson units will be refunded.

9. Missed Lessons (due to vacation, illness or other reasons)

A regular small group course consists of 40 lesson units. Intensive, Semi-intensive and Integration courses consist of 80 lessons. This also applies to absence due to illness and / or any other reasons which do not fall under the school’s sphere of responsibility. Breaks are not allowed under any circumstances with voucher-paid courses.
